Lynwood Emmert and Some Other Guys Sign Contracts

With a lackluster draft - the Snipers had no picks - Free Agency is where the team needed to make all its decisions. And it made the most important one right off the bat: Lynwood Emmert signed a contract worth more than the entire Power Balance Pavillion. The 6 year, $119 million contract will keep Emmert on the team for the foreseeable future, because GM Noonan would probably be shot dead if he ever deigned to trade him. That also keeps last season's starting five intact, and as the three 24 year olds improve, the gameplay will also improve.

Also returning to the lineup is 30 year old Michael Sickler. The definitive "6th man" on the team, typically playing minutes at 2, 3, and 4 every game, coach Gonzaga once called him the "glue which holds the team together." Sickler certainly helped the team make round 2 of the playoffs last season, as he was called to start in Emmert's shoes when he was injured the last game of the season. Sickler signed for a modest $16 million over three years, and will keep holding the team together from the bench.

As for the rest, it's a lot of minimum contracts with a heaping dose of "thanks for playing this year" and a sprinkling of "maybe you proved yourself to be re-signed." The two players worth watching are Mustafa Ranby at C, and Jason Marshall at PF (assuming Santiago ever comes off the court). Both are capable, if not extra-ordinary, bench players who can give a solid 10 minutes a game, and maybe more if another injury plagues the team.

The Snipers are currently down-under in Melbourne for training camp and a few exhibition games with the Dingoes. Then it's back to SacTown for pre-season.
